This is a 100% domestically produced menma made from moso bamboo, which is native to Nobeoka City, Miyazaki Prefecture.
Menma is popular in Japan mainly as an ingredient in ramen, but more than 99% of the menma is made from a variety of bamboo shoots called machiku, which is found in Taiwan and China. Nobeoka Menma was created to solve the problem of abandoned bamboo forests in Nobeoka City. It has the gentle crunch of bamboo shoots picked in Nobeoka and the spicy flavor of Nobeoka miso. Be careful not to become addicted to it.
